Foot Work

Most of Tensho-Kai's Technique are basd on these 8 foot works.

Hannmi no Kamae - Hanmi Posture.

  • First:Put heels together and make the angle 90 degree. Use Tatami line and stand in the middle of the line. Make toes center and make a circler move to open feet.
  • Step forward with walking distance. Change back foot angle to 90 degree on Tatami Line.
  • Bend knees and drop you hip until knees get above heels.
Center of Gravity and Posture
Straighten back:
Weight-Side is always 5:5
Weight front-back is 6:4

Arms: attached them at the joint of legs and don't open under arm.

Point: the line from top head to bottom of your body is called "Seichu-sen," means the center line of body. The tatami line in between your body is called "Chichu-sen," means the ground center line.


Half Tenkan

You don't change the standing position but change the direction to other side and switch hanmi to the other side (if you are right hanmi, then switch to left hanmi.

  1. stand in left hanmi.
  2. rotate your center clockwise by moving left foot to over the ground center in 90 degree of ground line.
  3. keep rotating and move right foot to left side.
Turning Direction: if left hanmi clockwise.


Full Tenkan

You switch to the other side where the opponent is. Hanmi will be the same in the beginning and ending.

  1. stand in left hanmi.
  2. rotate your center clockwise by moving left foot to over the ground center in 90 degree of ground line.
  3. keep rotating and move right foot the same opposite side of the ground cross lines.
Turning Direction: if left hanmi clockwise.


Revers Hanmi

You don't change your standing position and same hanmi (from left to left hanmi) but change direction 180 degree.

  1. stand in left hanmi.
  2. rotate your center counterclockwise by stepping right foot forward on the front of left foot.
  3. keep rotating and step back left foot right next to where right foot was, but cross the ground center line.
Turning Direction: if left hanmi counterclockwise.


Revers Full Tenkan

You switch to the other side where the opponent is. Hanmi will be the opposite in the beginning and ending (left to right).

  1. stand in left hanmi.
  2. rotate your center counterclockwise by stepping right foot forward and cross the ground cross lines (just in front of left foot.)
  3. keep rotating and move right foot the same opposite side of the ground cross lines.
Turning Direction: if left hanmi counterclockwise.


Switch Hanmi

You stand in the same position but switch hanmi to the opposite side. (left to right)

  1. stand in left hanmi.
  2. rotate your center counterclockwise by stepping forward right foot.
  3. keep rotating and step back left foot (not straight back, but curve)
Turning Direction: if left hanmi counterclockwise.


Irimi
7

Irimi is a footwork to entering the opponent. You switch hanmi to opposite (left to right.)

  1. stand in left hanmi.
  2. rotate your center counterclockwise and step left foot 45 degree left forward.
  3. keep rotating and step forward right foot.


Instep Tenkan

Instep Tenkan is using small step to do tenkan. You switch hanmi to opposite (left to right)

  1. stand in left hanmi.
  2. rotate your center clockwise and step right foot in front of left foot. Move from your heel when you step in right foot.
  3. keep rotating and step left foot forward and change the angle 180 degree.
Turning Direction: if left hanmi clockwise.
