Meishinryu Aiki-Jujutsu

What is Meishinryu?

It's the modern Japanese Budo Style

Meishinryu is new Aiki-Jujutsu of the combination budo of Daitoryu of Okamoto Seigo and Aikido of Steven Segal founded by Toshi Asaka in 2015. It is the new style of Japanese budo, but having Aiki technique of Daitoryu, we are very close to Takeda Sokaku's Aiki Jujutsu because he had learned both Aiki of Aikido under Abe Sensei who knows the Aiki of Morihei Ueshiba and Aiki of Okamoto Seigo, the master of Daitoryu Aikijujutsu.

Meishinryu has three different types of Japanese Budo.
- "Jujutsu" of Aikido
- "Aiki" of Daitoryu
- "Yoroi kumiuchi" of traditional Samurai armor combat skills

Aikido

What kind of Aikido style that Meishinryu teaches? If you watch 80's Steven Segal's movies, that are our style of Aikido.

The Aikido techniques of Meishinryu is based on Steven Segal which is a very practical fighting system. Unlike other Aikido, most of Meishinryu Aikido techniques are very simple and sharp because that is the only way to be very effective in a real fight situation. Iriminage, Kotegaeshi, Shihonage, Ikkyo, Nikyo, Sankyo, Kaiten nage and Kokyunage are the most of our Aikido techniques.

The main focus of Aikido in Meishinryu is Ukemi. Ukemi is the most important skill in Aikido because to practice the practical and sharp techniques, Uke is required a high level of Ukemi. We have a very unique back fall Ukemi that can take a strong and quick impact on your head or neck to protect your body. Also, the break fall is very important and Meishinryu will train you how to take all the energy of the throw and receive it to use it to jump in the air. This is a very high level of Ukemi.

Aiki Jujutsu

Aiki-Jujutsu or we categorize this as just Aiki is the fundamental technique of Daitoryu Aiki-Jujutsu. Meishinryu teaches this Aiki of Daitoryu. Daitoryu has also many techniques of Jujutsu, but because Meishinryu has Jujutsu of Aikido, we only train Aiki techniques.

Aiki technique is formed with 3 elements; circular motion, breathing, and counter reflex. The circular motion creates two important techniques, Aiki Age and Aiki Sage. By combining Aiki Age and Aiki Sage, Aiki will create almost unlimited techniques. With Aiki, you can throw a person with a finger, just touching with your palm or even throw with your ear.

Comparing to Jujutsu techniques, Aiki techniques require years of training to apply in the real fight situation. So, it is very important to practice both Aikido and Aiki at the same time. The beauty of Aiki is that this technique is not based on the muscle or any physical power to use it. So, even women or older persons can throw a big and muscular person.
